Beating the mito respawn, the real reason why Hamidon is hard.
There are 3 basic approaches.
1. Prevent the mito spawn.
2. Ignore the mito spawn, they all die when the nucleus dies.
3. Kill the mito spawn.
1. People beyond a certain distance from Hamidon do not get mitos spawned on them. Apparently this distance is just short of snipe with 6 range SOs at ++. Because of the toggle debuff nerf, a raid is now forced to have a fair number of people in range at very least. On top of that, many raids have been unable to beat Hamidon's regen with 6-range snipers, so they send in the melees which makes the respawn totally unmanageable.
The new theory from the Champion/Infinity guys is that Hamidon can be held, but holds have a significantly shortened duration. If Hamidon becomes un-held at any point below 50% HP, the mito spawn goes off. A good way to test a raid's ability to use holds as a winning strategy would be to try to hold Hamidon continuously for some length of time (without trying to damage him) - if he gets one shot off, it failed.
2. The basic idea is the triangle strategy - get the mitos in a clump in one place, and quickly move the raid force 1/3 of the way around Hamidon so they are out of range. Repeat on the second mito spawn. With the increased mito range the triangle gets pretty big. Team teleport actually has a potential use here.
Alternatively we could try to control mito aggro with phantom army, phase shifters, and tanks with Rise of the Phoenix so the raid force can move only a little and just keep shooting. This would be a big risk.
3. One thing that has not really been explored (not publicly at least) is how quickly Hamidon's respawn ability recharges. It might be instant - if he ticks above 50% and back down, it could go off again. Or it might be a longer time. From what people have said publicly it sounds like the respawn does recharge and can happen an unlimited number of times.
If the respawn recharges in a non-zero amount of time, it doesn't matter if Hamidon gets back to 100% HP for a minute while we're distracted - so it might be possible to clear the mito respawn. We can control *where* the mitos appear, so we can get them in one tight bunch (plus an extra on the one regen scrapper holding Hami's aggro). Then we have AoE debuffs...and AoE attacks...and mitos aren't nearly as tough as Hamidon. With phantom army hopefully holding some aggro it might be possible to wipe out a mito clump in a very short time. The XP would be pretty good too.
