As anybody who has ever been to any Hami raid can tell you, these events put a *huge* strain on the players' computers. We will be battling not only the Devouring Earth, but also the limitations of the client, our hardware, and sometimes even the server. (It has been speculated that some of the unexpected server crashes in the past have been caused, at least in part, by Hamidon raids.) At best, we will confront massive lag, vanishing mobs, and framerates best measured in seconds per frame, as opposed to frames per second. At worse, we will have client crashes, computer crashes, and possibly the zone itself crashing, kicking the whole raid off of the game.
Here are some things you can do to limit the impact of or work aroud the technical considerations on our raid:
1) Wear a costume with no cape and no aura. This will drastically reduce the number of things the client needs to draw.
2) Do not use unnecessary powers. This is especially important for group buffs like shadowfall, steamy mist, or any of the bubbles. Armors based around a damage type (Dark Embrase, Firey Aura, Wet Ice, Granite Armor, etc) are also useless. During the mito clearing stage, pets in general will be useless. Do not bring them out. If there is a good reason to bring out your pets (eg, Phantom Army to provide cover for a debuffing charge), do so away from the main body of heroes.
3) Turn all of your graphics settings to the minimum. (Well, except for gamma, of course.) The game will be ugly, but would you rather play ugly CoH or watch a slow slideshow of heroes conducting a Hami raid? Also, turn off all of the sound in the CoH options panel. This will reduce the amount of processing power you need to burn on hearing snipe after snipe after snipe.... (and worse, fort after fort after fort...)
4) Zoom in to first-person perspective. This will narrow your field of vision to allow the client to stop drawing anybody behind you, plus it will stop drawing your own hero. If it gets really bad, stare at the ground (seriously). Make your chat windows nice and big to keep track of things.
5) In the event that mobs vanish (making them difficult or impossible to target), assist! During mito clearing, all snipers should be assisting the main assist anyway. If the main assist vanishes, select his or her name off of your friends list to target him. (You did add the main assist to your friends list according to the raid plan, right?) If all else fails, find a pet attacking the current target and assist off of one of them. (Pets never lose target.)
